MIBR and FURIA make the VCT Americas 2026 playoffs in São Paulo: how the bracket looks

MIBR and FURIA both punched their way into the VCT Americas 2026 playoffs without ever touching the lower bracket: they won every series in Play-Ins, so they arrive in São Paulo seeded into the playoffs’ upper bracket of the double-elimination format. In practice, that means neither team needs to beat the same opponent twice to stay alive — they only lose that cushion if they drop their first series once the playoffs actually start.

How MIBR reached the upper bracket

MIBR didn’t finish in the top two of Group Alpha during the round-robin group stage (July 16 to August 9, 2026), so it had to go through Play-Ins to book a playoff spot. The road there was clean, with no trip through the lower bracket:

  • Quarterfinals (August 15): 2-0 win over KRÜ Esports.
  • Upper bracket semifinal (August 21): 2-1 win over ENVY — ENVY took the opening map, Sunset, 13-5, but MIBR answered with 13-9 on Ascent and 13-5 on Split to close it out.

Two series, two wins, zero trips to the lower bracket. That record is exactly what earns MIBR the more comfortable position inside the playoffs’ double-elimination bracket.

How FURIA reached the upper bracket

FURIA followed the same script out of Group Alpha, also without ever slipping into the lower bracket:

  • Quarterfinals (August 16): 2-1 win over G2 Esports, with Split, Haven and Breeze played across the series.
  • Upper bracket semifinal (August 21): 2-1 win over Evil Geniuses — Evil Geniuses took the first map, Sunset, 13-7, and FURIA closed it out with 13-7 on Breeze and 13-8 on Haven.

What the upper bracket actually buys you

Play-Ins and the playoffs both run on double elimination in VCT Americas: a team is only out after losing two series, not one. Whoever sits in the upper bracket at this stage hasn’t dropped a series yet — lose there, and you fall to the lower bracket and stay alive, but now you need to win more matches in a row, against teams that already survived one elimination, to reach the same final. Whoever is already in the lower bracket goes home on the next loss.

How the São Paulo playoff bracket looks

Playoffs feature eight teams: the top two finishers of each group stage go straight in, and the four survivors of Play-Ins fill out the rest. Based on group stage results, the four direct qualifiers are NRG and Leviatán (Group Alpha) and LOUD and 100 Thieves (Group Omega) — teams that open the playoffs on August 27 and 28 against opponents still to be determined.

MIBR and FURIA have already locked two of the four remaining spots, both earned through the Play-Ins upper bracket. The other two spots were still up for grabs as of this article’s publication: ENVY against G2 Esports and Evil Geniuses against KRÜ Esports played the third round of the Play-Ins lower bracket on August 23, 2026, with the winner of each going on to a lower bracket final that decides the last two spots in the eight-team field.

One detail worth flagging for whoever climbs out of that lower bracket: both KRÜ and G2 already lost to MIBR and FURIA, respectively, back in Play-Ins — if either crosses paths again with the Brazilian team that eliminated them, they’ll walk into that playoff matchup in the more fragile bracket position.

Dates, venue and what’s on the line

The VCT Americas 2026 playoffs run from August 27 through the grand final on September 6, with the decisive weekend — September 4 to 6 — hosted at Suhai Music Hall in São Paulo. It’s the first time in VCT Americas history that the finals leave Los Angeles, and it’s happening in the exact edition where MIBR and FURIA arrive in the strongest possible position.

The Americas region hands out four spots to Valorant Champions Shanghai 2026, the season’s world championship: the Stage 2 champion and runner-up both qualify directly, and the remaining two go to the leaders of the region’s accumulated championship points ranking. Reaching the upper bracket doesn’t lock in any of those spots by itself, but it gives MIBR and FURIA a shorter path — one loss cheaper — than any team forced through the playoffs’ lower bracket.
